The toy business has thrived despite the growth in screen time. Playing with normal toys white watching Netflix is still likely, but it will be much less so while being lost in immersive VR.
The Metaverse could crash the multi-billion dollar toy industry… or it could be the best thing to happen to it!
That’s because the more deeply children immerse themselves in virtual worlds, the more affinity they feel for the characters, worlds and brands they experience in the digital realm, which translates into more toy sales.
LEGO are already proving they’re on to this with their $1B+ investment in Roblox. But what about all the other toy companies, the long tail that do not have LEGO’s budget?
